About Gemma Atwell

In 2012, after studying silversmithing and jewellery - design for craft, and following a career in retail and visual merchandising, designer-maker Gemma Atwell started selling her whimsical jewellery line under the name The Silver Shed. Since then not only has her style of jewellery evolved somewhat, but a few other studios have begun using this name so in 2019 she made the decision to rebrand as Gemma Atwell Jewellery.

Gemma’s studio is based in the beautiful city of Bath, surrounded by the wild rolling hills of North Somerset and layer upon layer of history. Much of her work is inspired by her surroundings as well as folklore, fairytale and the wondrous natural world.

The ethos behind Gemma’s work has always been to produce heirloom like jewellery that is accessible to all. Like the designers of the Arts and Crafts movement she believes in simple design made beautifully. Everything is designed and hand finished by Gemma using precious materials such as sterling silver and gold.

The impact of her work on the environment is obviously also an important factor so, where possible, she uses fair trade and recycled materials and the majority of the packaging is recyclable.
