About Karen Joy
I originally trained and worked as a picture restorer, and then went on to do a fine art degree course. Having then married, it was not until the family grew up that I allowed myself to start painting seriously.
I have two styles of painting that I’m currently experimenting with – impressionistic and expressionistic. I find the acrylic medium very adaptable for my love of painting landscape, as it allows me to work in so many different ways, but always quickly and spontaneously, to match the ever-changing world around us. I usually work from the idea of a specific place, but the painting is always a reaction to the scene and my interaction with the paint at the time. I am finding that at the moment I am often drawn to paint more and more in an abstract style, although it is always based on the landscape.
